As noted in the "Spotlight" on the Inflation Reduction Act -- passing that Act involved only Democratic Senators and House members. NO Republicans voted for this significant legislation.
That says a lot about the Republicans.
• They do not care if billion dollar corporations pay zero income taxes. Many Fortune 100 and 500 companies either pay NO federal income taxes or have single-digit effective tax rates. These include Amazon, FedEx, Archer Daniels Midland, Exxon, AT&T, Microsoft, Verizon, UPS, Chevron, Dow, Nike, Coca Cola -- plus others at these links.
• Republicans blocked capping insulin costs for individuals with private health insurance. The Dems were able to cap insulin prices for Medicare with 50 Democratic votes, but Republicans required filibuster 60-vote rules for persons covered with private insurance. Thus, millions of non-Medicare covered Americans will continue to pay substantial amounts for their life saving drugs.
• Republicans don’t support taking serious steps to deal with the climate change emergency.
• Republicans worked to repeal the ACA entirely or cut its benefits during Trump years.
• The $300 Billion net revenues raised by the Act reduces the deficit. In severe contrast, the Republican passed tax cut in 2017 increased the federal deficit by $1.5 Trillion.
Don’t be fooled, the Republicans are NOT the party of fiscal responsibility.
